Art is a refuge in all kinds of circumstances, and I like to think of it as a language, like music. This particular painting, of the statues at the southernmost end, is describing the beauty of human culture and activity, as it is lit up with golden light from the setting sun. I hope it is a peaceful and a beautiful statement! If you want to see the auction, just click on the photo to see it.

AND...I'm a teacher now! Those who cannot sell, teach, I guess... and that's going to be my strategy for this coming year. Georgia artist Susan Kennedy will be teaching classes in oil painting at the Cumming Hobby Lobby beginning in October! Sign up now for these weekly workshops exploring the process of painting as you work on the subject of your choice with Susan. They will be offered for a special price of $20 per session this fall! Homeschool students, adults, teenagers, all (13 or over) are welcome! You don't have to commit to more than one session, but to reserve your spot you need to email susan at susan@susankennedy. com or email her at kennedyartstudio@bellsouth. net You may pay (by check or cash only) when you come to the class, and bring any painting materials you have, as well as any photos or still life objects you would like to work from. Many may wish to purchase materials at the Hobby Lobby immediately before class, and Susan will be there 20 minutes early to help with this. If you do not own an oil paint set and some basic brushes and canvases, plan on spending about $30 to $80 on materials. (But don’t worry about a palette because we’ll use Styrofoam plates!)

Painting Florals in Oil: : Mondays 10:00 A.M. to Noon This class is intended for the serious beginner or intermediate student. Learn to paint flowers from life or from your own photos, in a layered technique. Bring back your works from week to week as we start with underpainting, work on color mixing, and build a painting on canvas from scratch. $20
