Savetheartists.net is a place for cool and whimsical art objects and gifts which help save the world! But only after the artists get saved! Because hey, we're starving! This site is not really up yet, but in the meantime, here's my vision...so you can come along with me, see the progress, and join in making cool things for a good cause!
STA is all about promoting both handmade and artist-made objects and also about using recycled found objects in an artistic way (see gift bags at right). Why repurposed and recylcled gift bags and arty items?...Because artists aren't eating, Wall-e is not happy, and for that matter, Jesus ain't either!
I'll be the first to admit, I'd have to be dragged kicking and screaming into the green movement. I'd rather be a part of the BUY HANDMADE movement, the new resurgence of the Arts and Crafts movement of the last century. But, after I had some fun painting tissues to pack my shipped paintings with, I moved on to embellishing old comics pages to use as gift bag tissue, and had a LOT of fun doing that. And I thought, why not start making lots of repurposed arty gifts and gift bags, and donate a large part of the proceeds to charities? Why not have customers vote on which charity to feature each week? Why not? The more I thought about it as I painted the comics and tissues, the more I liked the idea. Then I made a gift bag out of newspaper and embellished it with sky blue craft paint and REALLY had fun. I like this!! I hope you catch the bug with me!

I want lots of artists to participate and to be featured on this site! Make some art, jewelry, bowls, bags, stationery, wind chimes, whatever you can think of, put them on your ebay or etsy store, then email me a link for this page with a photo of your work! It'll be fun!

And I'm hereby making a personal commitment to start recycling! How wrong would it be to auction off comics page gift bags for charity while I'm throwing away my cans and jars like usual?I WILL pull those canvas bags out of the trunk when I shop! I WILL peel the labels off the cans and throw then in a box to recycle. It'll mostly be because I want to make a gift bag out of the label, but we're focusing on baby steps, here!!!
